Intimate Wedding in Cleveland Ohio Wedding at the Hilton: John + Sara

You won’t want to miss this small but upscale wedding at the Hilton in Cleveland, Ohio. Everything about this day was special and unique, quite possibly because of the pandemic.

The Wedding Day in Cleveland, Ohio

It’s always a breath of fresh air when I get to photograph a wedding in the city and I know it sounds a little weird saying “fresh” where there are few sources of actual fresh air, HA! But because I’m used to being surrounded by trees, dirt roads and literal cricket sounds as the sun peaks over the hills, it feels good to do something a little different. If I had it my way, I’d photograph a lot more city weddings, or rather weddings where there is a cityscape somewhere nearby. The Hilton was a perfect place and I wouldn’t hesitate to photograph another wedding here for a second.

Another Covid-19 Wedding in the City

John & Sara’s special day was just that: special. Covid-19, yet again, turned their wedding plans upside down. I’m starting to see a theme this year; are you? I’m honestly thinking about making a special coronavirus blog category so that the world can see how drastically different this pandemic has made weddings. Oddly enough though, amidst the chaos and the uncertainty, I kind of like the turn weddings like this have taken. It is’t your typical packed house type of wedding usually but it is a wedding where the details are intentional.. especially the guest list.

It’s forced my couples to take a step back and choose the ride-or-die people who they cannot imagine their day without, spend some extra time figuring out how to live stream the ceremony so that those who want to make it but cannot can still watch, and then they make the hard decision to eliminate the rest of the guest list. I’m certain that it’s been very difficult to make those decisions but it’s truly wonderful to see the intimacy there is at a wedding that is about the couple and their very closest friends and family. AND BONUS! I am able to gift them photographs of every couple and individual who made it there, something that isn’t really possible at weddings with 200+ people.

The New Normal for Wedding Days

Of course we are ready for this “new normal” to begin and even though we aren’t sure what that is (I can’t lie, I like a good party with lots of people!), I’m so proud of the way my clients have handled this pandemic with such grace all the while treating me with the same grace too. It’s truly a pleasure to be one of those few people to experience this special day and to capture it the way they felt it. On this day, I was invited to sit with John and Sara for dinner and we talked about many things from John’s parents’ careers and the way they met to sweet words from the couple about the people who filled the room. I’m so grateful for those conversations and I’ll cherish those few moments with the B&G for a lifetime.

Ready? Let’s go!

This is who I call John’s instagram model groomsman who took the spotlight every chance he could, haha! I figured I would make a block on this post special for him, ha!
